My work has been a form of visual research, manifesting through collage and paintings at various scales. The focus of the work has been the fusion of various trajectories: the direct experience of the phenomena of the natural world, but one that resists the notion of mimesis.
This has resulted in experimental work which explores in greater depth the physical process of painting. This includes substrates, surfaces mediums, inks and acrylics in conjunction with the use of both real and artificial silk as coverings over acrylic paintings. This process reflects a reference to the traditions of Chinese landscape painting.
It is the fusion of material chemistry, physics, sensation, and psyche that comprise the foundation and perhaps the intention of my practice. I consider painting a means by which consciousness can be archived; through certain actions (including improvisation) I contemplate my work as an expression of the optical and the psychic, the paintings then being conceived in terms of energy rather than dimensional forms.
