An exhibition of paintings by Toni Littlejohn
Littlejohn’s large canvases are gravitational improvisations that effectively summon nature’s powers: glacial flow, volcanic eruptions, tectonic shifts and moments of vast oceanic stillness. Using gravity’s force as a partner, she tilts the canvas in various directions so the paint will succumb to sliding down.
Littlejohn feels that gravity holds us to the earth in an embrace that is mostly kind to us humans, but can also be horrific. The unpredictability of earth’s constant change demands that we must adapt and transform ourselves.
She states, “My intention in art making is to invite our hearts to open to cherish, nurture and embrace Earth’s power, beauty, and mystery.”
